A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF THE RECIPIENT OF THE SENIOR PASTOR'S AWARD

Carolyn Strachan (nee Culmer) is a widow and the mother of five children. She has been a member of Grace Community Church since May 1987. She received Christ as her personal Saviour during that year at the Reach out to Live Crusade.

Many years ago Carolyn came down with a distressing health problem, which could have caused the ordinary person to become bitter and withdraw from active life in church and the community. Not so with Carolyn! She continued to devote herself to serving wherever possible. She could be seen singing happily in the Choir.Carolyn is not one to complain, or to let persons upset her.

In fact, it is next to impossible to wipe that smile off her face. No wonder she has earned the nickname "Smiley", a name that even her children and grand children call her. Her greatest prayer request is for family togetherness - that she would live to see the salvation of all of her family members.

According to Senior Pastor Bethel, his reason for choosing Sister Carolyn is "because in the face of adversity and bodily affliction she still continues to exemplify a Christ-like attitude. For eighteen years she has persevered under trials with no complaint and no excuses. She continues to live a Christ honouring life. She inspires us by her refusal to give up. Not as able to walk because of her condition she will come out in her wheel chair just to be with the saints of God and to hear from the Lord".
